Argonaut is such a sick skill, you basically have to be in extreme shit trying to save yourself or someone else for it to even activate... which is cool since it's not that OP since the prerequisites to activate it are literally, someone has to be close to death... that along with Fire Bolt and a weapon that enhances magic... and Bell's secret skill that allows him to gain far more EXP, or "GROW" much faster than other adventurers.... but seeing as who his grandfather was... his skills make sense, and no I haven't read the manga... Hermes basically let it slip early on in the series.. also during the movie.

What i think happened with "bells" is his energy resonance that boosted the grenade several tiers more in the explosive power than usual and such resonance caused "bells" to go off as a side effect to a supercharge hence why firebolt + grenade evolved into FIRAGA[tier 3 ff4 spell]. For starters, Each stat is registered on the back of adventurers, The more you do things the more the stats go up, bells go up extremely fast due to his Realise Freeze skill. Currently he has the stats of a level 5 low level 6 Because all of his abilities each level have stacked to s-sss Including his magic stat. Lastly, bells firebolt is a grimwha aquired spell so its stronger than normal, as its stated in the first season it will grow based on his desires. In conclusion when bell was level 1 fighting the minitour his fireball was smaller, when he got to level 2 he could shoot them out more often and they dealt more damage, When his life is in danger he can output more firepower because of his emotions, now that he is level 4-5 on the verge of levelling up, its more like a fucking flamethrower. Its not really inconsistent either if you take a look when he was with welf and lilly and had to carry them he used a massive firebolt to clear an entire bridge of wolves, the flames were so big they spilt like water off of the bridge into the void.

His magic is getting powerful. Maybe he's getting adapt in utilizing the magic because of using it again and again. Dude used it many times but still didn't get "Mind Zero" thing. It shows that with his Level and Experience his magic is getting stronger too.
And that Argonaut skill makes his magic even more powerful, from what I remember Hestia saying "Argonaut gives the weilder power to shape his ideals into reality and save him from any threat or pinch he's in."
